Character Counter
Paste or type text to see characters, characters without spaces, words, sentences, and paragraphs update in real time. You can also compare the current length with common social-platform limits while keeping the draft in your browser.
Platform Character Limits
How to Use the Character Counter
Paste or Type Your Text
Enter or paste the text you want to measure into the editor. The statistics update as the text changes, so there is no separate submit step. This makes it useful for drafting a caption, headline, profile text, description, message, or any other copy where you want to watch length while writing.
Check Your Counts
Review total characters, characters excluding spaces, words, sentences, and paragraphs. These measurements answer different questions: a platform may care about total characters, an editor may care about words, and a writer may use sentence or paragraph counts to understand the structure of a draft.
Check Platform Limits
Use the platform progress indicators as a quick reference for common text limits. Platform rules can change and some services count URLs, emoji, line breaks, or other characters differently, so confirm the current rules on the destination platform when an exact publishing limit is important.
Character and Word Counting Features
Real-Time Character Counting
Every edit updates total characters, characters without spaces, words, sentences, and paragraphs without requiring a submit button. That immediate feedback is useful when composing posts, captions, descriptions, headlines, messages, and other length-sensitive copy.
All Major Platforms Covered
Built-in reference limits cover Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube descriptions. Color-coded progress bars show how the current draft compares with the stored limit, while the destination platform remains the authoritative source if its rules change.
Privacy-First — Private processing
Counting runs client-side, so the text entered into the core counter does not need to be sent to Pixwit for measurement. Even with local processing, avoid pasting passwords, authentication secrets, private keys, or other credentials into web pages unless there is a clear reason to do so.
Copy & Clear in One Click
After reviewing the length and structure of a draft, copy the text to your clipboard or clear the editor with the dedicated controls. This keeps the workflow simple when you are iterating on several versions of a caption, description, headline, or message.
Understanding Character Count, Word Count, and Text Length
Text length can be measured in several ways, and the right number depends on what you are writing. A character total is useful for fields with hard limits, while word count is more useful for estimating the size of an article or assignment. Sentence and paragraph counts provide another view of structure. Seeing these measurements together makes it easier to edit a draft for a specific destination.
Characters with spaces vs. characters without spaces
The total character metric includes spaces, while the no-spaces metric removes ordinary spacing from the count. Many publishing fields are concerned with the full text length, so total characters is usually the safer number to watch for a hard platform limit. The no-spaces figure is useful for comparison, analysis, or workflows that explicitly define length without spaces.
Character count and word count answer different questions
Two drafts can contain the same number of words but very different numbers of characters because word lengths vary. A short social caption may be constrained by characters, while an essay, article, script, or assignment may be discussed in words. Check the measurement used by the destination rather than converting between words and characters with a fixed formula.
Sentence counts are an approximation of structure
This tool identifies sentences using common terminal punctuation patterns. That works well for ordinary prose but cannot perfectly interpret every abbreviation, decimal, list, fragment, or unusual punctuation style. Treat the sentence total as a practical writing statistic rather than a full grammatical analysis, especially when the text contains technical notation or highly stylized copy.
Paragraph counts depend on line breaks
Paragraphs are detected from blocks of text separated by blank lines. If a platform or editor visually wraps a long line, that does not create a new paragraph in the source text. When paragraph structure matters, use deliberate line breaks rather than relying on how text happens to wrap on a particular screen size.
Platform limits can use special counting rules
A simple raw character total does not always match a platform’s own publishing counter. Services can apply special handling to URLs, emoji, Unicode characters, mentions, hashtags, line breaks, or other elements, and their limits can change over time. Use the progress bars for drafting convenience, then check the destination service when you are close to a hard limit.
Edit for clarity instead of only chasing a number
When a draft is too long, start by removing repeated ideas, unnecessary qualifiers, filler phrases, and redundant calls to action. Shortening a sentence while preserving its meaning is usually better than deleting useful context at random. When a draft is well below a limit, do not add words simply to fill the available space; the goal is clear communication within the constraint.
Practical Uses for a Character and Word Counter
Social posts and captions
Draft posts for Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, or other services while watching text length change in real time. Platform reference bars can help during editing, but confirm the current limit in the publishing interface when your draft is close to the maximum or contains URLs and unusual characters.
Titles, descriptions, and metadata
Check the length of page titles, product descriptions, profile biographies, form fields, snippets, and other constrained text. A count can tell you whether a draft fits a technical limit, but it cannot tell you whether the wording is persuasive, accurate, or likely to be truncated visually in every interface.
Essays, articles, and writing assignments
Use word, sentence, and paragraph totals to understand the size and structure of longer writing. If an assignment specifies a word range, rely on the word metric rather than character length. Different editors can tokenize unusual punctuation or languages differently, so use the required submission system as the final authority for strict academic rules.
Ad copy and interface text
Writers and product teams can compare alternative headlines, button labels, notifications, descriptions, and ad variants when a design has limited space. Character length is a useful engineering constraint, while actual visual fit still depends on font, language, screen width, and the component in which the text appears.
Messages and form fields
Check a support reply, marketplace listing, application response, SMS draft, or other field before pasting it into a system with a length restriction. Keeping the measurement separate from the destination lets you edit comfortably, then copy the final text when it is ready.
